SKILLS DEVELOPMENT OPTIONS

 

 
   

Retraining Options may be available to you if you are currently receiving EI benefits or if you are unemployed and have received regular benefits in the last three years. Retraining options may include skill training, literacy training or upgrading to Grade 12 and are based on individual needs. We have developed a comprehensive Education Directory of diploma programs and certificate education divided into the eight main career fields to assist you with your research in this area.

Job Creation Partnerships projects provide eligible participants with opportunities to maintain or enhance job skills. At the end of their participation, clients will have recent work experience to add to their resumes and this, together with the networking which participants are able to do while on a project, increases their chances of successfully finding long-term employment.

Targeted Wage Subsidy is a wage subsidy program designed to assist unemployed Employment Insurance eligible individuals experiencing difficulty in finding work to benefit from on-the-job work experience; and to enable employers to hire individuals who face barriers to employment, that they would not otherwise hire, by offering temporary wage subsidies.

Eligible individuals can apply to participate in Targeted Wage Subsidies through their local Human Resource Centre of Canada. Individuals may also complete the application form (EMP5335) prior to visiting the local office.
